Trinity Medical Center to Close
The East Texas Medical Center (ETMC) in Trinity, TX will close August 1, 2017 when its lease concludes. The long-planned closure of the center at 317 Prospect Dr. in the East Texas town is due to declining reimbursement rates, according to ETMC officials.
ETMC had leased the space for 20 years, “so this decision is one we struggled with, and did not make lightly,” said Perry Henderson, senior vice president, affiliate operations. He went on to say that low patient volumes at the facility, as well as declining Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements led to the pending closure.
Trinity County Judge Doug Page said a hospital district has been formed, and is continuing the search. “After ETMC closes, then depending on what end of the county you’re on, the closest hospital would either be Lufkin, about 32 miles away, or Huntsville, which is about 25 miles away,” he told the Tyler Morning Telegraph. “It’s not a good situation.”
