Travis Co. Raising $100M for Affordable Healthcare Facilities
Travis County’s special medical district for low-income residents, Central Health, is hoping to sell $100 million in bonds to help pay for expansion efforts. The Austin Business Journal reports the taxpayer-supported taxing district has brought in Siebert Williams Shank & Co. to assist in marketing and selling the bonds.
The money will go toward new clinics, including a 116,000-square-foot office complex in NE Austin. The center will serve as a clinic, pharmacy and detox center for people in needing treatment for substance or alcohol abuse. $90 million will go to buy and renovate the office complex.
Another $10 million will be used to renovate the Rosewood-Zaragosa clinic in East Austin. The work is expected to be completed in 2025. The new facility will provide 50 beds for people who are experiencing homelessness and recuperating after hospitalization.
