Transformation of Alexandria’s Landmark Mall Underway with a Name Change
Potomac, MD-based Foulger-Pratt is kicking off its transformation of the Landmark Mall Alexandria, VA from a shopping center to a mixed-use work-live-play community with a name change to West End Alexandria.
Foulger-Pratt, with partners The Howard Hughes Corporation and Seritage Growth Properties, in November 2021 announced the $54-million sale of an 11-acre parcel at the site to the City of Alexandria’s Industrial Development Agency. Concurrently, the IDA entered into a 99-year ground lease with Inova Health System, which will invest $1 billion to create a new medical campus anchored by the relocation and expansion of its Alexandria hospital.
The remaining portions of the site, set to begin development this spring, include a mix of residential, retail, commercial, and entertainment offerings integrated into a cohesive neighborhood with a central plaza, a network of parks and public spaces, and a transit hub.
Affordable and workforce housing will be enhanced through developer contributions and co-location with community facilities such as a new Alexandria Fire-EMS station.
