Toyota Moving Ahead with New $531M SA Facility
Toyota Texas is expanding its footprint with a $531 million investment bringing more than 400 new jobs to San Antonio. The new on-site 500,000-square-foot facility will be dedicated to drivetrain parts production.
The news follows a vote by the San Antonio City Council that okayed an incentives package that includes a 65% tax abatement, estimated to be just under $15 million. The package includes reinvesting a portion of property taxes from the new investment into public infrastructure around the plant.
San Antonio’s Toyota plant currently has 3,700 direct employees, and another 5,600 are employed by the facility’s on-site suppliers. Toyota Texas is the exclusive home to the Tundra truck and all-hybrid Sequoia SUV, both assembled on the same production line. Last year, Toyota Texas rolled out more than 181,000 vehicles. Toyota’s total investment in the plant has grown to more than $4.7 billion.
