Top Broker Honoree: Institutional Property Advisors’ Peter Katz
Peter Katz is a top earning agent with Marcus & Millichap in its Institutional Property Advisors (IPA) division. Katz leads a specialty division within this company called IPA-Student Housing that specializes in the acquisition and disposition of student housing communities nationwide. He is also involved in the strategic consulting for the development of student housing assets across the nation, as well as sourcing capital for core, core-plus and value-add assets. In 2017, Katz closed a record $2.46 billion in property sales, with a focus on student housing properties. Those deals contained for a total of 10,522 units.
His 51 transactions in 2017 also included the sale of one of the student housing industry’s largest portfolios ever, which contained 22 properties with a total of 12,000 student housing beds that serve 20 universities in 18 states. Institutional transactions like this require a savvy advisor like Katz. They tend to have many moving parts, including the strategic selection of student housing assets on behalf of the seller, negotiation of key business points for all parties involved and verifying the accuracy and credibility of the underwriting for both the buyer and seller.
