Tomball Facility Needs Assessment Presented, Buildings Need Work

The first phase of a facility needs assessment for the city of Tomball has been completed. The assessment focused on the state of municipal buildings, and included examination of the city hall, police and municipal court building, among others, in the far north Houston suburb.

Each building was given a top score of 10, with the public works service center receiving a 2, and Fire Station No. 2 receiving an 8. According to Randall Scott of Randall Scott Architects during a recent city council meeting, the city hall and service centers were built in 1974 and 1984, respectively. Functionality issues range from inadequate space, to lack of compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, to locations in residential areas, he said.

The next step, Scott noted, will focus on program requirements and the approximate costs of facility updates/new construction.
