Tokyo Central to Open at CenterCal’s Redesigned Bay Street Emeryville in 2025

CenterCal Properties said Tuesday that Tokyo Central, a popular Japan-based grocer and retailer, is coming to the newly redeveloped Bay Street Emeryville lifestyle shopping center in 2025. SFGate reported that the announcement solved a three-year-old mystery over who would occupy the 40,635-square-foot space that the Emeryville Planning Commission approved in 2021.

Founded in 1965 and owned by Pan Pacific Retail Management, Tokyo Central offers a wide variety of premium imported Japanese goods such as groceries, made-to-order and ready-to-go food trays, health products and many other specialty items. The Emeryville store will be the second in Northern California, joining one in Cupertino.

“Bay Street’s freshly redesigned space offers residents and visitors a unique cultural shopping experience, and the addition of Tokyo Central completes our team’s vision of bringing an important daily needs amenity to the surrounding community,” said Scott Bohrer, VP of development for Bay Street Emeryville.
