TikTok Expanding Seattle Office Space to Support E-Commerce Business
TikTok, the company behind the popular video-sharing app, is looking to aggressively grow its employee footprint in the Seattle area as the social media video app takes on Amazon for e-commerce shoppers. TikTok is looking to grow its TikTok Shop, a new shopping feature that showcases and sells products directly on the app.
TikTok’s Beijing-based parent, ByteDance, is using the Seattle area as a hub as it continues to hire, leveraging the local talent from nearby tech companies. The company first expanded in the area in October 2021 when it subleased a 44,000-square-foot office at the Key Center in downtown Bellevue. Tik Tok’s move is in sharp contrast to the trend of tech giants shedding office space.
Employees will be able to choose from space in Seattle and Bellevue, thanks in part to recent office exits by Amazon and Microsoft. Amazon left the West 8th Tower and the 2201 Westlake building, and Microsoft declined to renew leases in the Bravern Towers, City Center Plaza and Lincoln Square South.
