Washington Nationals Unveil Plans for Year-Round Ballpark Use
The Washington Nationals have unveiled preliminary plans to transform the team’s stadium into an entertainment district that is accessible all year round, offering an array of shops and restaurants. The aim is to create a lively hub for fans and visitors beyond access to just game days and concerts.
Renderings of the conceptual plans show converting parking spaces into a two-story restaurant, adding retail bays to the stadium’s lower levels, and enhancements to the surrounding garages. The proposed upgrades would be funded by the legislation approved by the D.C. Council late last year, which provides funding for Nationals Park upgrades and maintenance.
When Nationals Park was inaugurated in 2008, both the D.C. Major League Baseball team and the surrounding area were relatively inexperienced and underdeveloped. Today, the area has seen the addition of multifamily units and commercial spaces in the area, and the team is looking to build on this transformation of the stadium, reported the Washington Business Journal.
