NRG Park to Being $54M energy savings plan

Texas Stadium to Embark on $54M Energy Saving Plan

NRG Park in Houston is moving forward on a sustainability and energy efficiency project that is estimated to generate more than $54 million in savings. It’s a pretty sweet deal. The company advising the sports facility on the project is guaranteeing the savings.

The project is in collaboration with Johnson Controls Inc. (JCI), Harris County and Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation. JCI will work to upgrade building equipment and controls over much of the complex. This includes heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, building automation systems (BAS), water conservation, life safety systems, lighting improvements, as well as high-efficiency chiller upgrades and the integration of JCI OpenBlue Central Utility Plant.

The project is expected to reduce NRG Park’s annual carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 241,000 metric tons. To put it into perspective, that is equivalent to taking 52,000 vehicles off of Harris County roadways.
