Dallas keeps building apartments

Texas Metros Lead in Apartment Construction

Texas continues to take a leadership position when it comes to apartment construction over the past three years. A recently released RentCafe survey showed that the Dallas, Austin, and Houston metros come out in the top ten of most categories.

When it comes to 2023, DFW ranks second behind NYC as the nations largest builder. If you count the last three years, Dallas is first. Here are the real numbers for Dallas:

  • No. of apartments built in the last three years: 76,660  
  • No. of apartments expected to be delivered by the end of 2023: 23,659 

Austin at number 3, developers are set to open 23,434 new rentals by the end of 2023.

From 2020-2023 Dallas built the most apartments during those three years with 76,660 units. Coming in third is Houston, with 53,741 and Austin fourth with a little more than 45,000 apartments.
