Roof repair nearly fully funded for Tropicana Field

Tampa Bay Rays Stadium Roof Repair Near Full Funding

One of Hurricane Milton’s victims was the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team. Winds from the storm tore the Tropicana Field roof off, forcing the team to play its games at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, the spring training home of the New York Yankees. Repair costs are estimated at $55.7 million.

The St. Petersburg City Council will vote this week to formally approve $22.5 million in a guaranteed maximum price for repairs. The team is responsible for the rest. Team officials hope to have the roof ready by the 2026 season.

Hennessy Construction Services has been responsible for planning and implementing key repairs and addressing water damage inside the stadium. Hennessy is collaborating with AECOM Hunt, which has expertise in sports facility construction.

The Rays recently pulled the plug on a $1.3 billion stadium/entertainment project.
