Strong Q1 Performance Bodes Well for Retailing in 2024

The first quarter of 2024 was generally good for retailers, Placer.ai reported in a new white paper. Following unusually cold and stormy weather in January, February and March saw steady year-over-year weekly visit growth that grew more robust as Q1 wore on.

“Though prices remain high and consumer confidence has yet to fully regain its footing, retail’s healthy Q1 showing may be a sign of good things to come in 2024,” according to the Q1 2024 Retail & Dining Review

Discount & dollar stores stood out during Q1. However, other sectors performed strongly as well. Visits to superstores, and warehouse clubs in particular, increased during the quarter, as did visits to dining establishments.

The white paper charts the Q1 performance of these sectors along with the grocery, fitness and home improvement & furnishings categories.
