Stream Realty Taking on East Sixth Revamp in Austin
The street is famous for many of the wrong reasons. Rowdy partying and some recent shootings have many residents clamoring for upgrading the area.
At a recent meeting of the Austin Historic Landmark Commission, Stream representatives shared a few ideas with the group. Stream owns as many as 30 buildings on the street and hopes to make it a fun and safe gathering place. First off, they are hoping to open the street to car traffic to prevent a “street party” type atmosphere. In addition, they are hoping to bring a mix of uses other than bars. Also, pushing to get height restrictions eased and a setbacks that would preserve street-level facades are on the list.
They say they’ve been working with the City of Austin and expect to receive some code changes which would allow them to proceed with partial demolition to clear the way for new structures.
