Sterling Bay Proposes Additional Apartments Near Lincoln Yards

The Lincoln Yards mega-development project is pushing forward as Sterling Bay works to finalize financing for the ambitious endeavor. Sterling Bay, the developer of the project, is now proposing a pair of apartment buildings totaling 609 units nearby that would support a quickly growing residential plan it is eyeing for the North Branch of the Chicago River, reported Crain’s Chicago Business.

A Sterling Bay venture is seeking the city’s approval to build a 16-story, 294-unit apartment building and a 27-story, 315-unit building next to each other at 1840 North Marcey Street in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.

The developer would demolish a building it bought in 2019 from third-party logistics firm C.H. Robinson to make room for the new development. Sterling Bay also won City Council approval for around 6,000 residential units at Lincoln Yards itself. The mega-development has hit a slew of obstacles, including financing setbacks and pushback from Chicago’s previous Mayor, Lori Lightfoot.
