Steak ‘n Shake Serves Up First Chicago Location
Steak ‘n Shake is coming to the largest city in the state where it was founded in 1934. The casual restaurant chain is slated to open its first Chicago location in June at University Village Maxwell Street, a shopping area on the south end of the University of Illinois at Chicago campus.
The chain’s plans to open in Chicago proper were first announced in January by Alderman Patrick D. Thompson; already there are more than two dozen Steak ‘n Shake restaurants in the surrounding suburbs. Franchisee Melvin Buckley has owned and operated McDonald’s locations around Chicagoland.
“Our goal is to expand the university’s campu, and make the brand the most sought after in Chicago,” said Buckley.
Chicago’s first-ever Steak ‘n Shake will join a University Village tenant roster that includes a variety of restaurants, taverns, retail outlets and service shops. CBRE’s Yolanda Valle is leasing manager.
