Stater Bros. Reduces Energy Usage During Summer

Grocer Stater Bros. Markets is cutting back on its electricity use over the summer.

The San Bernardino-based grocery chain is cutting back its power usage by 315,000 kilowatt-hours per month. Other parts of the effort include using LED lighting at new and renovated stores as well as closed doors on refrigeration cases, in hopes that energy usage will be reduced by 50 percent during peak hours.

Meanwhile, Stater Bros. is making some big charitable contributions as well. The supermarket company is giving $150,000 to area food pantries and also donating food to food banks in its area stores.
