Starr Western Wear Buys Former Macy’s Building

Enoch Kimmelman, owner of Starr Western Wear, acquired the former 100,000-square-foot Macy’s building, on the site of Sunland Park Mall in El Paso. Kimmelman is planning to use the space to open Starr’s third retail location at 750 Sunland Park Dr. The former Macy’s building, which was shuttered in March 2017, is independent of the 927,703-square-foot regional mall, which has also been struggling.

Kimmelman acquired the building from El Paso investors for an undisclosed price, with the property appraised at $2.75 million. Starr Western has a 50,000-square-foot store at 112 E. Overland Ave. in downtown El Paso, and a 30,000-square-foot store on the east side.

“We’ve been looking for a West Side location for a long time,” Kimmelman told the El Paso Times. “We will be a great addition to the mall, and we are excited to be there.”
