Starbucks, Other Major Firms, In Major Minority Hiring Push

It looks like Starbucks will hire more whites in California now that Latinos are the majority ethnic group in the state.

All jokes aside, the coffee giant’s chief executive, Howard Schultz, is heading up a coalition of major corporations to hire 100,000 mostly Latino and African American workers by 2018. The other firms involved in the initiative include Alaska Airlines, CVS, Lyft, Microsoft and Walmart.

Schultz, who grew up in public housing, has also started a $30-million foundation that focuses on local job training and mentorship programs.

The new coalition plans to hold job fairs in major cities across the country, starting with Chicago in August, where it expects to generate 1,000 new hires in the next 18 months.
