Stalled Target Project Can Resume in Hollywood
Construction of a long-stalled three-story Target retail center in Hollywood can resume, following a unanimous LA City Council vote to revise planning and zoning restrictions at the Sunset Blvd. site. A judge halted work on the Target store in 2014 because the 74-foot-high structure didn’t comply with the 35-foot height limit.
Construction is expected to resume within weeks, and the company says the ruling should allow the project to be completed next year. Target will pay a fee to fund required child care services near the store.
Opponents may file another lawsuit, though the city believes the zoning change will withstand new challenges. There is support for the project within the community, who say it is a needed amenity for nearby residents.
