Skyway to Nowhere will Soon BE Nowhere

An unconnected skyway from a shuttered Macy’s building in downtown, St. Paul, MN will soon be history. The “skyway to nowhere,” as it is called, has hung over Wabasha Street for 10 years, and St. Paul Port Authority and developer Hempel Cos. will be tearing it down to redevelop the Macy’s property. The removal will cost between $50,000 and $100,000.

The former Macy’s store will be redeveloped into a mixed-use project, at an approximate cost of $60 million. The NHL’s Minnesota Wild has committed to making a rooftop rink planned for the building as its permanent training facility. Much of the construction is anticipated to be completed by fall of next year.
