St. Louis Region Will See Amazon Warehouse
Amazon plans to build its first Missouri fulfillment center, located in the St. Louis suburb of St. Peters, creating up to 1,500 jobs locally. The e-commerce giant currently operates a sortation center in nearby Hazelwood, MO, and will employ about 4,000 people across the region when the new facility opens.
Duke Realty will develop the 855,000-square-foot facility at its Premier 370 Business Park. Matt Hrubes, Duke’s VP of leasing and development, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that construction should begin in a few weeks.
The St. Peters facility will be used for small items such as books, electronics and toys. The employees picking, packing and shipping orders there will get an assist from technology such as Amazon Robotics.
Tom Chulick, president & CEO of the St. Louis Regional Chamber, said that Amazon’s decision “highlights our region’s strategic national location, strong transportation infrastructure and superior quality workforce.”
