St. John Properties Advances National Solar Rooftop Strategy

St. John Properties, Inc. has earned LEED certification for 27 buildings, advancing the roll-out of its solar strategy nationally. The firm recently installed the largest solar project in the company’s history at Aspen at Melford Town Center.

St. John Properties and Capital Solar Group installed the largest solar energy system at the 388-unit, $150 million multifamily community, which features studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartment homes and was developed in partnership with Somerset Companies, LLC.

Since initiating its LEED program in 2009, St. John Properties has developed more than 7.7 million square feet of LEED-certified space across the country and is ranked among the top five developers of LEED-certified buildings nationwide by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Last year, the company earned certifications from the USGBC for 27 buildings, and now in total has more than 130 LEED-certified buildings. “Achieving LEED certification for flex/R&D buildings is atypical in the commercial real estate industry, but we have been compelled to be the market leader,” said Ryan Schwabenbauer, St. John Properties’ Vice President, Sustainability.
