Sprouts Farmers Market Eyeing Third San Antonio Location

Sprouts Farmers Market Inc. indicated it plans to build a new grocery store at Bulverde and East Evans Roads on San Antonio’s northeast side, according to a new filing with the state. Construction on the store is reportedly scheduled to start in July 2018, and cost approximately $2.6 million. The completion date is slated for February 2019.

The grocery chain, which is known for a focus on organic products, already has two stores in San Antonio. One is on the north side, at 8101 Callaghan Rd., and the other at 17700 U.S. 281, on the northeast side. A third store at 2502 Nacogdoches Rd., north of Loop 410, closed in 2015.

The local grocery market is becoming more competitive, with additions of new H-E-B stores and the entry of German supermarket chain Lidl, as well as Amazon’s $13.7 billion acquisition of Whole Foods in 2017.
