Spotify is planning to move into 378,000 square feet at 4 World Trade Center in early 2018, as part of a major expansion. The relocation will bring 832 employees downtown from the music streaming service’s existing Midtown South headquarters. The company will also add more than 1,000 new employees to the new space.

“Spotify, with its 1,882 tech and media jobs, will further diversify Lower Manhattan’s business community and help move the neighborhood into the 21st Century economy,” said Howard Zemsky, president, CEO of Empire State Development and & commissioner of the New York State Department of Economic Development.

That’s great news for the market for downtown office space, which has struggled to absorb all the new office space opening downtown. The 2.5-million-square-foot building at 4 World Trade Center, owned by Silverstein Properties, is the first office tower at the 16-acre World Trade Center site to be fully leased. It opened in 2013.
