SpaceX is constructing a ‘shell building’ in Bastrop County that will be 521,521 square feet. The estimated cost of the project is $43 million and the building is expected to be completed by July 2023. Bastrop County is just south and east of Austin.

The SpaceX site is within an hour of a number of other ambitious projects associated with Elon Musk. The Tesla Gigafactory covers 2,500 acres along the Colorado River with over 10 million square feet of factory floor. Gigafactory Texas is a U.S. manufacturing hub for Model Y cars and the future home of Cybertruck.

Tesla’s Megapack will power one of the company’s biggest production plants, a massive batter energy storage system next to the Gigafactory. Just last month the City of Austin approved the project which is 53.27 acres in size.
