SpaceX Bastrop County Plant Could Reach 11M-SF

Elon Musk is calling the proposed 11 million-square-foot plant in Bastrop County, Gigasat. The Austin Business Journal reports the Space Exploration Technologies Corp. solar production facility will be larger than his sprawling Tesla gigafactory, which is 10 million square feet. Musk revealed that his companies now have roughly 1,000 acres of land, owned or under contract, about 30 miles east of downtown Austin, near Bastrop.

Musk discussed during a 30-minute presentation on X that a 100-million-square-foot factory could be built, making it the largest building in the world.

SpaceX is expanding to 1.5 million square feet of Starlink production and warehouse space on the east side of FM 1209, along with a 1.5 million-square-foot solar cell factory under construction. SpaceX already has nearly 1,600 employees there and could soon top 2,000.

SpaceX reported that it had about 9,600 Starlink broadband and mobile satellites in orbit as of March 31 this year.

The company recently filed for its initial public offering, which will likely be the largest in history.
