Southern Land Breaks Ground on Deco 969
Southern Land Company (SLC) recently celebrated the groundbreaking of its new 27-story rental residences, Deco 969, at 969 Commerce St. in downtown Fort Worth. SLC founder and CEO Tim Downey was joined by Elizabeth Beck, District 9 city councilmember, and Larry Anfin, chairman of Downtown Fort Worth Inc., at the construction site for the ceremony.
“We are proud to bring the first luxury high-rise rental residences to downtown Fort Worth, a location that boasts great character, notable destinations and convenient access to plentiful businesses and services,” said Downey. “Deco 969 is poised to provide a one-of-a-kind lifestyle to residents seeking a refined living experience downtown, and to attract more transformative projects that will only add to Fort Worth’s vibrant culture and economy.”
Anfin says SLC’s project addresses the challenges of downtown construction.
“Deco 969 represents the future of downtown apartment living,” he said. “Demand for places to live in downtown continues to increase as land for new construction becomes scarcer. The answer to this problem is building up, and that is exactly what Southern Land is doing.”
Deco 969 will feature more than 300,000 square feet with 302 for-rent efficiency, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartment homes and penthouses, and eight floors of above-grade parking. Additionally, Deco 969 will include retail and restaurant space on the first floor.
Upon completion, SLC’s project will have access to retail, parks and transit including Fort Worth Central Station.
