Southern California Leads Nation in Life Sciences Jobs

The Los Angeles-Orange County metro leads the nation in life sciences employment and establishments, according to research from JLL. The life sciences industry in the region generates more than $27.3 billion in annual economic activity.

JLL researcher Jared Dienstag says, “The Los Angeles-Orange County metro is home to one of the nation’s largest and most innovative life sciences industry. The growing number of STEM degree holders living in this metro supplies the medical device and biotech firms with a highly educated and technically-savvy workforce. Strong demand from the healthcare industry for life sciences firms to conduct greater amounts of research and development will keep this industry in growth mode.”

The activity is driven by 25 research institutes in the region that conduct research, and train future scientists and entrepreneurs. The local highly educated labor pool also provides a strong base for medical device and biotech companies to recruit and employ talented staffs.

Key market stats:
– Los Angeles/Orange County Employment 120,830
– Greater Boston Area Employment 86,371
– New Jersey Employment 75,863
– San Francisco Bay Area Employment 67,798
