South Dakota State’s $190M Construction Boom
South Dakota State University in Brookings will have a busy 2017 construction season, with plans to spend some $190 million on upgrades and new buildings. Some of the larger construction projects will start soon, according to Facilities and Services Vice President Dean Kattelmann.
For example, ground will break in summer 2017 on a 37,000-square-foot wellness center project. The facility will provide court storage, racquetball courts, laundry maintenance and an exercise studio. Also on tap is an addition to the on-campus Frost Arena, which is a three-year phased project. Kattlelmann said the goal is to have these projects completed by 2019.
Two additional projects are awaiting approval from the South Dakota State Legislature. These include an addition and renovation of the Stanley Marshall building, and a new research support facility.
