GAF Energy Building Plant in Georgetown

Solar Shingle Maker Leaving CA, Chooses Georgetown for HQ

GAF Energy will shutter its California plant and relocate its operations, including its headquarters, to a 450,000-square-foot factory in Georgetown. The company manufactures solar roofing shingles. The company stated that Georgetown is closer to its core customers.

The Austin Business Journal reports that the changes include centralizing operations, as well as manufacturing and research and development, at the company’s recently opened 450,000-square-foot manufacturing site located at 110 SE Inner Loop in Georgetown.

GAF opened a facility in Georgetown in 2023. At full production, the $100 million factory will enable GAF to produce enough solar roofing shingles for 50,000 homes annually, officials have previously stated.

The factory is expected to employ at least 265 people.

GAF launched in 2019 as a subsidiary of Standard Industries and has been billed as a competitor to Tesla, which, in addition to cars, produces Solar Roof panels. GAF is known for its Timberline Solar roofing products, which include nail-on roofing shingles.
