SoCal Port Cargo Volumes Surge

Connect Industrial is heading to Chicago, June 28th. Here’s where to get more details and register.

Cargo traffic spiked at both of SoCal’s ports in April. The Port of Los Angeles (POLA) hit a record volume number, while Long Beach’s trade also increased compared to the previous year.

In fact, April’s cargo volume at POLA was the best in its 110-year history, increasing 8.9% to 714,755 TEUs. Cargo movement increased 10% during the first four months of 2017, compared to the same period in 2016. POLA imports increased 8.3% and exports rose 9.4%.

At the sister Port of Long Beach, container volumes jumped 16.5% higher in April, compared to the same period in 2016. Cargo movement during the first four months of 2017 rose 5.1% from the previous year.

A new shipping alliance is largely credited with the increases.
