Sobrato’s $100M Gift Funds Santa Clara STEM Campus
Silicon Valley real estate developer John A. Sobrato, along with wife Susan, donated $100 million toward the creation of the Sobrato Campus for Discovery and Innovation at Santa Clara University. The 300,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art STEM education “campus within a campus” is slated to start construction in fall 2018 and be completed in 2020.
The 166-year-old university notes it is the largest gift ever, and qualifies as the second-largest ever to a Catholic university.
“The complex will allow for the integration of the various engineering departments with the natural science disciplines of the College of Arts and Sciences to address—with Jesuit values—some of the world’s most pressing problems,” indicated John Sobrato, founder of the Sobrato Organization.
Cupertino, CA-based Sobrato developed the iconic Cupertino HQ of Apple, as well as campuses for Siebel, Nvidia, Netflix, EMC, VeriSign, and Yahoo! The firm currently owns 92 CRE buildings, totaling nearly eight-million square feet.
