Sobrato Organization Has Big Redwood City Mixed-Use Plans

The Sobrato Organization has unveiled plans to build a major mixed-use project in Redwood City that is now home to a retail center that has seen better days.

The development is called Broadway Plaza, and is forecast to have 400 apartment units, 420,000 square feet of office space and 19,000 square feet of retail.

Rob Hollister, president of real estate for Sobrato, says that the reason his company chose a mixed-used scheme is because of concerns about a housing shortage in the Bay Area.

Hollister says one of the very best things developers can do is to give people the chance to live where they work, and shop where they live.

Broadway Plaza is the latest addition to Redwood City’s bulging development pipeline, as builders seek to capitalize on the city’s key location between San Francisco and San Jose.
