Snack Plant Coming to Houston

H-E-B Grocery Co. is doing more than opening retail stores throughout Houston and the rest of Texas. It is now planning its second snack manufacturing plant in the Lone Star State. Specifically, the grocer will open a 64,000-square-foot factory at 10000 ½ Genard Rd., which is less than a mile away from an H-E-B distribution center on Windfern Road on the metro’s northwest side.

According to construction documents, foundation and site work will cost $3.6 million. A construction launch and completion date has not yet been announced, nor has the number of employees the plant would hire. H-E-B currently employs more than 24,000 in the Houston area.

The grocer’s other snack plant is in San Antonio. The 40,000-square-foot plant manufactures potato, corn and tortilla chips.
