Smoother Ride Ahead for TEX Rail
Rail service direct from Fort Worth to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport could become a reality, thanks to the Federal Transportation Administration’s add-in of $499 million. The government’s grant will pay for close to half the cost of the $1 billion rail line. The other half is being covered by state and local funds.
TEX Rail, which could be operational as early as 2018, will span nearly 27 miles, with stops in Fort Worth, North Richland Hills, Grapevine and the airport.
Paul Ballard, CEO of the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T), said the rail line is critical for Fort Worth’s economic viability. “Businesses look to where they would locate or relocate (and) one of their check-offs on their list is, does the city and county have a rail connection to the airport?” he told the Dallas Morning News.
