Ontario’s Conservation Park Engages Environmental Education
The City of Ontario has built a park to promote water-wise measures, and engage the public in environmental education. The recently opened $3-million Conservation Park, on the south lawn of City Hall, showcases how to protect and preserve natural resources in an arid region.
Featuring drought-friendly California native plants, a children’s play garden, public art elements, and an outdoor educational amphitheater, the city has transformed an unused space into a 1.3-acre educational and recreational park.
The outdoor amphitheater allows students to learn about conservation and solar energy. Learning tools also include benches, depicting the phases of the moon, and an interactive sundial.
