Large Chinese tech firm showing interest in Manor Texas

Small Town Manor Staying Mum About Rumored Tech Plant

The rumor mill is in overdrive in Manor, Texas. The town of only 18,000 people is getting a lot of buzz because a multi-billion dollar Chinese industrial laser business has reportedly purchased 262 acres in the town. The buyer can be traced to the Hans Laser Corp. The company is a manufacturer of laser cutting and laser welding machinery with a market capitalization on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange of about $4.6 billion.

The Austin Business Journal says speculation is centered around the company building a large manufacturing facility to supply a number of high tech Austin manufacturers. Han’s say it’s a supplier to Samsung, NXP and Infineon, all who have an Austin presence.

Public officials confirm the company has discussed plans for industrial space in the town with mixed-use space coming later that could support 1,000 jobs. The town says it hopes to have an announcement soon.
