The Scanlon building will turned from offices to hotel rooms

SLTX Converting Houston Offices to Hotel

SLTX Capital purchased the century-old Scanlan building at 405 Main St. in December and plans to kick off a wholesale makeover. The offices will be converted into a 140-room hotel with an accompanying restaurant and bar. The hotel will be a Canopy by Hilton branded property.

The Houston Business Journal reports that SLTX acquired the 96,699-square-foot building after the previous owners turned it over to the lender to prevent foreclosure.

The 11-story building is located near the intersection of Main and Preston streets and is known for the mural of a boy riding a bicycle painted on one side.

SLTX Capital plans to begin the remodeling work in early 2026 and open in the summer of 2027.

The Scanlan building was built in 1909 by the family of Thomas Howe Scanlan, a two-time mayor of Houston. The site was once home to the “White House of the Republic of Texas,” where two Texas presidents lived before the capital moved to Austin in 1839.
