Skyline Ranch Owner Eyeing Southside Mixed-Use Project

Robert Pitre has owned a 65-acre piece of property east of University Hills Boulevard and I-30 for 30 years. The site at 1801 E. Wheatland Road, called Skyline Ranch, is an events center.

Now, he has successfully secured a rezoning from the City Council, which will allow him to build a mix of housing and retail on the southside parcel. The Dallas Business Journal reports that while there is still much to be ironed out with the city, Pitre favors building a 300-unit residential community, condos, and retail. His next steps are to finalize a plan, identify a development partner and obtain financing.

The property is near the 270-acre University Hills development. Work started in May on the projected billion-dollar project, which could include thousands of residential units and 1.5 million square feet of commercial space.

In addition to the University Hills development, Pitre’s future project will be near the University of North Texas, Dallas campus.
