Skidmore Contract Completes Design Team for O’Hare Revamp

The design team for the $8.5-billion O’Hare 21 modernization project is now complete, as Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM) signed a contract to design two satellite terminals for O’Hare International Airport, and HNTB was selected as lead civil engineer. SOM and HNTB join Studio ORD, a consortium led by Studio Gang that serves as lead architect on the project.

“We are committed to continuing to work closely with our federal and airline partners to build a new O’Hare on schedule and on budget, all while maintaining safe operations at the world’s busiest airfield,” said Jamie L. Rhee, Chicago Department of Aviation Commissioner. “All three designers will contribute significantly to this goal through their designs and input to detailed implementation plans.”

The project will be delivered in phases, with an expanded Terminal 5 representing the first major terminal upgrade at O’Hare.  Construction of the satellite concourses and supporting infrastructure will follow.

Connect Industrial Midwest is coming to Rosemont, IL on March 4. For more information, or to register, click here.
