Skanska Wins Excellence in Construction Award for Work on George Mason University Project

Skanska was named the recipient of a 2026 Excellence in Construction Award by the Metro Washington and Virginia Chapters of Associated Builders and Contractors for the firm’s work on George Mason University’s (GMU) Life Sciences and Engineering Building.

Located on GMU’s Prince William County Science and Technology (SciTech) Campus, the $85.4 million building spans 132,000 square feet of purpose-built space. Completed in January 2025, the state-of-the-art facility features advanced research laboratories, specialized teaching facilities, and flexible innovation zones designed for breakthrough work in bioengineering, bioinformatics, and computational life sciences.

The Excellence in Construction Awards annually recognize outstanding projects built by Washington-area ABC members. “This achievement highlights our continued commitment to delivering exceptional facilities and community-focused development to support higher education institutions,” said Mark Balling, executive vice president and general manager responsible for Skanska’s Mid-Atlantic region. Skanska currently has more than $1 billion in projects in progress across its Mid-Atlantic region.
