Skanska to Build Fall River Secondary Rail Line in Massachusetts

Construction and development firm Skanska, as part of a joint venture with D.W. White Construction, has signed a contract with Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority to build the Fall River Secondary Line, the first major package of the South Coast Rail Phase 1 Expansion in Massachusetts.

The total contract for the rail expansion is worth $159 million and will include two new stations, in Freetown and Fall River as well as a layover facility for train storage in Fall River. The project will also include 12 miles of track, eight railroad bridges and ten grade crossings.

Construction began in June and is slated for completion in October of 2022.
