Six Flags America in Maryland to Close

Six Flags Entertainment Corporation announced that it will close Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor in Bowie, Maryland, at the end of the 2025 season.

The property, which spans more than 500 acres, will be marketed for redevelopment by CBRE. “As part of our comprehensive review of our park portfolio, we have determined that Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor are not a strategic fit with the company’s long-term growth plan,” Six Flags President & CEO Richard A. Zimmerman said in a press release. “After reviewing a number of options, we believe that marketing the property for redevelopment will generate the highest value and return on investment.”

The news comes on the heels of D.C. and the Washington Commanders reaching an agreement to build a new 65,000-seat roofed stadium at the RFK site in the District. The Landover stadium and Six Flags sites are located within a 15-minute drive of one another.
