Simon to Give Fashion Valley a Face Lift
Simon Property Group is planning to update Fashion Valley via a multi-million dollar investment in the outdoor shopping center in San Diego. The mall operator, which holds a 50% stake in the property and is responsible for operations, envisions creating a resort-like feel at the 50-year-old facility.
The upscale property opened in 1969 and underwent a renovation in 1997, including the addition of a second level. The Indianapolis-based mall owner took over Fashion Valley operations in 2001, and says the makeover will be its biggest since the 1990s.
Plans include adding more dining options, as well as creating inviting places for shoppers to gather and hang out. New landscaping, water features and seating options will help spruce up the grounds. Also planned are new and improved valet areas, and more personal shopping services.
The upgrades are expected to be completed in 2021. The center features more than 200 stores.
