Simon Property Partners with GE for Energy-Efficient Malls

Simon Property Group, headquartered in Indianapolis, has partnered with Current (a GE subsidiary) to make malls more sustainable and energy-efficient. To that end, Simon and Current have targeted Westchester Mall in White Plains, NY and Castleton Square Mall in Indianapolis to deploy energy-efficient solutions, including everything from demand response systems for electricity optimization, to electric vehicle-charging stations.

In the meantime, Simon has been working with GE to install LEDs in many of its malls. The giant retail owner will use findings from these installations to expand installations with currents on other sites.

In one scenario, Simon used sensors from Current’s intelligent LEDs to measure snow-removal effectiveness. Simon projected that better monitoring and analysis could save more than 20% in snow-removal costs.
