Siemens Gets Nod for 1.4-Megawatt Solar Project at Javits Center
Siemens Building Technologies has been selected by the New York Power Authority to install up to 1.4 megawatts of solar renewable energy on the rooftop of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on Manhattan’s West Side.
New York City’s largest rooftop solar generation project to date, the Javits Center installation will offset the building’s electric load and advance Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s clean energy and jobs agenda.
“Installing solar technology on the roof of the busiest convention center in the United States sets an industry standard for venues throughout New York and across the nation on how best to embrace renewable energy,” said Cuomo.
More than 4,000 solar panels will be constructed over the HVAC units on the Javits Center’s green roof to avoid impacting plants on the rooftop. An additional street-level solar array will be constructed on Eleventh Avenue. Construction is expected to begin in early 2020.
