Shuttered Sports Authority to Become New Entertainment Venue
A 55,000-square-foot closed Sports Authority space at 4720 Alexander Blvd. N.E. in Albuquerque, NM, has a new lease on life. Albuquerque businessman Daniel Chavez will open the space in November 2019 as the Revel, a $12.2-million entertainment and dining center. The venue will feature Chavez’s Uptown Funk Dueling Pianos bar, a Draft Day Sports Bar, other restaurants and entertainment and a 3,200-seat concert venue.
The businessman told the Albuquerque Journal and Albuquerque Business First that bands traveling between Austin and Phoenix often stop in Albuquerque; having a large venue can mean adding a local tour date to their schedules.
Chavez, a music industry veteran, had opened the original Uptown Funk at Albuquerque’s Park Square in 2016. While seeking out a less-cramped location, he and his family decided to think larger, which is how the Revel came into being.
