Sherman Wafer Plant First Production Date Released
It’s no secret Taiwan-based GlobiTech Co. is going to build an expansive silicon wafer factory in Sherman. Until now, what wasn’t known is when the company could start production. The Dallas Business Journal reports a target completion date has been announced for the first phase of the project. The first phase, currently under construction, has a $1 billion estimated cost and a completion date of Dec. 31, 2025. Production is expected to begin immediately thereafter.
GlobiTech Inc. announced it was coming to Sherman last June. The announcement came with a lot of fanfare due to the cost of the factory, $5 billion, and the number of jobs it expected to create 1,500. The project is being built in four phases, with each phase expected to employ about 325 people.
Ultimately, the size of the facility is planned to reach 3 million square feet.
The facility will produce 300-milllimeter silicon wafers that are used to make semiconductor chips.
Connect Texas Multifamily 2023 will take place on Aug. 22, 2023 at Virgin Hotel in Dallas. Click here for more information and to register.
