Sheba Med Center Will Anchor Health Tech Hub at Michael Reese Site

Sheba Medical Center of Tel Aviv will anchor a health and wellness innovation hub that will serve as the first phase of a redevelopment of the former Michael Reese Hospital site in the South Side’s Bronzeville.

The project is being developed by GRIT, a joint venture of Farpoint Development, Bronzeville Community Development Partnership, Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives, Draper & Kramer, Loop Capital and McLaurin Development, in partnership with Kaleidoscope Health Ventures.

“Innovation at this site will put Chicago at the forefront of a burgeoning holistic health and wellness industry, contribute $1.8 billion to Chicago’s economy over 20 years, and directly address local health challenges, including Chicago’s 30-year life expectancy gap,” said Scott Goodman, principal of GRIT. He was referring to the life expectancy gap between upscale Streeterville and the South Side’s Englewood.

At full build-out, the mixed-use redevelopment will encompass 100 acres. Phase 1 is anticipated to begin in 2021.
